The five Waikato River Trails

The Waikato River Trails are divided into five sections across a range of terrain from gently undulating trails to some that are steeper, rugged and more adventurous. The trails are are graded from 3 (Intermediate) to 4 (Advanced) and while they are mostly wide and smooth, some are trickier single-track trails (particularly on the Waipapa section) – a mountain bike is recommended.

As a result of more wind and rain, a large poplar tree has come down across the Trail just off Lake Road as you are heading out of Mangakino.

The tree is less than 100m from the road heading north. The tree is stable but is at head height when cycling.

Please take care, we will remove the tree as soon as we can.

We have located invasive plant species Yellow Flag Iris at the Huihuitaha Wetland.
Yellow Flag Iris forms dense stands that can displace native species and impedes water flow. We have removed the plants and their root rhizomes.
Please contact us if you see this plant with its distinctive yellow flower on your travels along the Trail.

Due to a significant washout on the Trail, a detour is currently being put into place. The detour is signposted and will remain in place until further notice.
