Whakamaru Section

The Whakamaru Section of the Waikato River Trails has many access points. The main access point is in the south, 200m from SH1 on Ongaroto Road. And there is also a number of council reserves to make access to the Whakamaru Section easy. The Trail has a huge variation of landscapes and vistas.

This section is mostly easy. Cyclists are recommended to use the sign posted 200m road alternative instead of the Ongaroto steps - to save you from carrying your bike. Alternatively, you can park your bike at the bottom and walk to the top to enjoy the views.
